Ayr Field is a green open space in the heart of St Ives. It’s a wonderful place for everyone to enjoy, with a large field, a play area and a wildlife zone.

Ayr Field is a  green space located centrally in St Ives above Porthmeor Beach. The nearest shop is Ayr Stores, and the nearest toilets are on Porthmeor Beach.

Ayr Field has a large grassed area for ball games, children’s play area, butterfly garden and nature zone. It is a dog friendly site and it is a great place to exercise your dog however, dog owners are asked to clean up any mess and use the dog foul bins provided.

Ayr Field is managed by a community group – all volunteers – who regularly work to improve and maintain the site. 

Ayr Field Community Group was created in 2005 as a campaigning group sought to secure the use of Ayr Field as an open green space for the people of St Ives. The field had been used as a car park, but was reclaimed as a public space. In 2006, the plan outlining the community consultation to secure Ayr Field as an open green space was submitted to Cornwall County Council and accepted. Ayr Field Community Group aims to develop the area by introducing dense native woodland planting; rebuilding dilapidated the walls with a Cornish hedge; putting up signs and notice boards and also providing disabled access to the area. They went on to raise the funds for the field improvements in 2007.

Ayr Field Community Group have also managed to secure National Lottery Community Fund funding. 

Ayr Field Community Group has a monthly tidy up at Ayr Field.

Every summer they hold a community event and fundraiser – Ayr Field Day.
There is live music, dancing, fairground rides, storytelling, market stalls and hot food.
