St Ives Community Choir
St Ives Community Choir practices each Tuesday evening starting at 6:45 pm. People arrive from 6:30 pm and take the opportunity to have a chat. After a warm-up and occasionally, some basic musical theory instruction, we practice until about 8:30 pm. We sometimes practice at the concert venue if practicable, just before the concert itself. We do about 10-12 concerts a year, many of them falling in December, where we produce programmes for Carol concerts. We try to fulfill every invitation we receive.
We ask for a donation of just £1.00 for each practice. This covers the cost of the hire of the building and any equipment (e.g. keyboard) if necessary. Members of the community choir are expected to buy their own music which is ordered by our librarian. This is not a lot of expense in the course of a year. Members also buy a black binder for their music. We are encouraged to try to learn our pieces so that music is not always needed during a concert. There is no uniform to buy. We sometimes have a colour scheme for concerts.
The practices take place in Carbis Bay Methodist Church and free parking is available in the veterinary surgery park across the road. We love to have new members at any time. Pop into the Carbis Bay Methodist Church on Tuesdays to give us a try.
