The originally named St Ives Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was founded in 1884 and was the first tennis club in Cornwall. Its courts and croquet lawn were situated on the Tregenna Estate with wonderful views over the bay. For many years it had a select and enthusiastic membership with many of the artists living and working in the town enjoying the social activities, and of course, the tennis, that such a club provided.
The completion of our £100,000 re-development project – jointly funded by the club and Sport England’s Community Asset Fund – saw St Ives Tennis Club become the first club in Cornwall to have a synthetic clay surface.
Come and play on our new courts. St Ives Tennis Club is currently accepting new members while visitors can book our courts via the Booking link on their website. Membership is now free for juniors aged 10 and under.
Tennis, fun, sun, and friendship – what more could you ask for? St Ives Tennis Club can’t promise the sun but you’re guaranteed the other three at the tennis club with the most beautiful outlook anywhere. Well, most people who play at the Club say that!
Located just above Porthminster Beach, their two new artificial clay all-weather courts are used throughout the year.
Visitors are welcome on a pay-and-play basis (sorry, St Ives Tennis Club don’t hire rackets) and courts can be booked on their website with a credit or debit card.
The Tennis Club has no parking but there may be some spaces on the nearby station car park and there is a walk-through at the back of the platform.
Courts are available for public hire between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday. Other times are for members only but subscription fees are very reasonable and we welcome new and out-of-county members.
Members meet for social tennis on Wednesday & Friday evenings, 6-late and Tuesday, Friday & Sunday mornings, 10-12. If you are thinking of joining the club why not come down and meet some of us for a chat.
The club fields two men’s teams, a ladies team and a mixed team in competitive league tennis.
