G7 Summit in Carbis Bay

BBC Radio Cornwall interview about G7 summit

On Tuesday 19th January 2021  Morag Robertson (Chair, St Ives CLT) was on the BBC Radio Cornwall ‘Afternoons‘ show. Morag talked about the recent G7 summit announcement and how the legacy of the G7 could be Sustainable for St Ives

Ideally, the legacy of G7 would offer environmental protections and community infrastructure such as a community centre and careers, not jobs. Morag appreciates that the Prime Minister wants to ‘Build back better’ and hopes that the prime minister will show exactly what he means by that whilst he stays at Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate.

The interview touches on a few more areas of the G7 along with what other areas that hosted the last G7 (or G8) received as legacy funding. There were some warnings, however, of the level of disruption that Carbis Bay, Falmouth and the surrounding areas would encounter whilst the 7 world leaders are in the area. It was also warned that one of the last towns that hosted the summit only received a sign stating it was the home of the summit. Morag repeated that St Ives deserves so much more.
